What Would Charles Darwin Drive?

They take us to work and on vacation, they carry us in comfort through wind and rain and snow. Whether you like cars or not, for most of us they’re a necessity. So what is the best car to own, if you need one to get around, but want to do right by mother nature too? For this Innings presentation we’ll look at what goes into a car – whether a new all-electric Leaf should be in your future, or keep driving the old Civic until the wheels fall off. There’s no one answer that works for everyone, but we’ll look at some of the things to think about – a quick look into the science under the hood, and a view beyond EPA ratings or manufacturer’s claims.

Brian Bear is a Sierra Club member and Mechanical Engineer, with a background in testing and product design in the automotive and medical product industries. Brian currently works at Ethicon Endo-Surgery, a manufacturer of surgical instruments.

This presentation will cover the automotive industry, with a focus on “Fuel Efficient Gasoline Engines, and Alternative Fuels, like Hybrid-Gas, Electric Plug-in, combination Gas-Hybrid-Plug-in, Diesel, Natural Gas.
