Descriptions:

Emily Cigolle – LEAP

“LEAP stands for leaders for environmental awareness and protection. We are a student group on campus that focuses on promoting recycling, environmental awareness campaigns directed at UC students, as well as volunteering and partnering with many non-profit environmental agencies throughout Cincinnati. Some of the projects we have done are The RealFood Challenge and Water Bottle Refill Stations and our current project is the Net Zero Waste Campaign. We also do a variety of small events and incorporate different environmental aspects into our meetings.”
Emily Cigolle is a Dual Major in Geology & Environmental Studies at the University of Cincinnati.

Debbie Clark & Elizabeth Durrell – Polar Bear Trip

Elizabeth and Debbie took a travel tour of Winnipeg and Churchill Manitoba. Churchill is one of the few human settlements where polar bears can be viewed in the wild. The itinerary started with a tour of Winnipeg, which is experiencing a renaissance in rehabbing historical buildings and building new. They just opened the National Human Rights Museum, which is beyond amazing. After leaving Winnipeg, we flew 2-1/2 hours to Churchill, where we met with First Nation residents, traveled on a tundra vehicle to search for the polar bears and other wildlife on the edge of Hudson Bay, and took a dog sled ride, to name a few.
About Debbie Clark: Debbie has been a member of the Miami Group Sierra Club for 20 years. During that time she has mostly been involved with the Membership/Outreach Committee and the Political Committee. For the past 2 years, she has been the Political Committee Chair.
