The Nominating Committee of the Miami Group of Sierra Club is seeking candidates for election to the Executive Committee for a two-year term beginning in January 2016 thru 2017. Terms are staggered. Five positions are open for the 2016 – 2017 term.
The Miami Group Executive Committee is comprised of 9 elected volunteers and oversees activities of the local Group, establishes local policy consistent with national policy, sets priorities and budgets. The Excom oversees and insures effective Conservation and Political Programs, Outdoor Activities including Paddlesports School, Outreach & Membership, Fundraising, etc.
Executive Committee members prepare for and participate in up to 12 excom meetings per year. Each member is expected to serve as an officer or a liaison to one or more committees. Excom members also participate in various activities including Monthly meetings (Innings Programs), annual retreat, etc.
Applicants interested in serving should be:
• Dedicated to the purposes and goals of the Sierra Club
• Able to think strategically, politically, and creatively about a range of environmental issues and administrative functions
• Able and willing to accept the legal and fiduciary responsibilities of an excom member
• Be familiar with the structure and culture of the Sierra Club, and
• Able and willing to commit volunteer time

The Nominating Committee will take applications until August 2015.
Ballot issue petitions must be received by July 1, 2015.
Petition Candidates must present sufficient, valid ballot signatures by September 16, 2015.
Candidate statements are due September 16, 2015.
Ballots are mail by postal service or online by October 31, 2015.
Votes must be received by mail by December 1 or made online by December 1, 2015.
Ballots are expected to be counted by December 8, 2015 and candidates notified.
