What: The Miami Group’s Video Organizing Project
When: Monday June 1, 2015, 7:00 – 8:55 PM
Where: At the Dan Beard Boy Scout Council (10078 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45241)
Speaker: Joe Bowman
The Miami Group has joined with local unions and community groups to make three videos about the complex issues which have impeded the Metropolitan Sewer District’s mandate to fix our out-dated and ineffective sewer system.
In this program, producer Joe Bowman will show the 3 short videos:
- Greening our Sewers: Green Solutions to Hamilton County’s Water Problems
- WANTED: Upgraded Sewers at Affordable Rates
- Responsible Bidder: Investing in the Community — Preserving Local Jobs
Between screenings, we will discuss how these videos can inform and mobilize people in support of the Sierra Club efforts to get
sewage out of people’s basements and the county’s waterways. Popcorn will be served.
In his 45 years of environmental, community and labor organizing, Joe Bowman has used mimeographs, photocopies, newspapers, and radio, but this project is his first try at making and organizing with videos. He is currently a member of the Miami Group’s ExCom and chair of its Blue-Green Alliance. He enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and spending time with his family. His day job is occupational health research with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
