December 3rd Meeting: Richard Hellmann–Nature Travels in China

Monday, December 3rd at the Marge Schott Boy Scout Center on Reading Road in Evendale:

**** Hellmann will present his travels to China: three weeks, five cities plus Hong Kong, and transportation by plane, train, bus, rickshaw, and boat – including a 3 day trip down the Yangtze River with its Three Gorges Dam.  Besides walking The Great Wall, Peking’s Tiananmen Square & the Royal Palaces and its Olympic Bird’s Nest stadium, **** and his wife, Kathy, visited a Panda preserve, many Buddhist temples, and Xian’s terracotta warriors.

A retired engineer from G.E., **** has been active in the Sierra Club for nearly 20 years, with extensive involvement in environmental issues.    He has travelled extensively with hiking trips in the Alps & Alaska and recently completed El Camino – “The Way” for a total of 750 miles through France & Spain (two weeks per year over five years).  Now they are traversing the northern coast of Spain two weeks at a time.  He volunteers for OLLI (Osher Lifetime learning Inst.) at U.C. Blue Ash, teaching a course on “Cool Green Gems and Hot Environmental Issues” – a sort of informal Sierra Club outreach effort, to senior citizens.
