A recent beautiful sunny Saturday marked the kickoff workshop of Miami Group’s Fall Beginner Backpacking School at the Isaac Walton League Lodge in Loveland. Ten participants met with seven Outings Leaders for a full day of classroom and hands-on instruction. Topics included shelter, sleep systems, packs, Leave No Trace Principles, trail meals and more. The next event will be an overnight “shakedown” trip in Germantown, and the program culminates with the “Real Deal” backpacking trip to Big South Fork Recreation Area in Kentucky.
When asked what the best part of the training was, one participant enthusiastically replied “The instructors!” A big thanks to our Outings Leaders for making this a great experience for all!
