Continuing to fight nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in Ohio rivers

The water quality in the Ohio River is impaired by nitrogen and phosphorus (N&P) pollution coming from factory farms and sewer plants. Despite years of recognition at Ohio EPA that our rivers are impaired, we still do not have numeric water quality standards for N&P or plans called TMDLs to reduce this pollution.

Ohio Sierra Club and other Sierra Club Chapters in the Ohio River Basin have joined together and filed a formal petition to USEPA asking it to set numeric water quality standards and develop much needed TMDLs.

Thanks to everyone who sent USEPA an email asking them to take up this petition. If you didn’t get a chance yet, you can help this effort a bunch by clicking on our ADDUP campaign. Thank you for acting!

PS — This will help with sewer overflows too!
