Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain.
Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. To help better prepare for these backcountry risks, several Miami Group Outings Leaders recently participated in Wilderness First Aid training presented by the SOLO Wilderness School. This two-day, 16-hour training is strongly encouraged for all leaders who conduct outings in the backcountry where emergency response services are not immediately available. The course included both classroom training and hands-on practice in a natural outdoor setting.
Many thanks to SOLO Wilderness and Morgan’s Riverside Campground for partnering with Miami Group to offer this potentially life-saving instruction to the community.
