Pipeline Extension Update

On Nov. 21st the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) ruled on the Central Corridor Pipeline Extension. Unfortunately, the ruling went in favor of Duke – despite extensive local pushback. Opposition to the project came from: Hamilton County, the cities of: Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Deer Park, Madeira, Reading, Amberley Village, Columbia Township, Golf Manor, Sycamore Township, the Village of Evendale, Neighbors Opposed to Pipeline Extension (NOPE) and others who chose to become official Interveners. There were also around 1600 individuals and groups who submitted testimony and comments to the Board, all but a handful, adamantly against running the proposed 20 inch diameter high-pressure natural gas pipeline through densely populated or high consequence areas (HCA’s).

The route selected was Duke’s Alternate route – the “Green Line”, passing through Sycamore Township, Blue Ash down through Evendale, Reading, Golf Manor, Cincinnati and terminating in Norwood.

There is great disappointment that the views and data of local voices and expert witnesses, other than Duke’s, were discounted in the process.

The Interveners are evaluating their best arguments and have 30 days to appeal to the Board and then, if necessary, to the Ohio Supreme Court.

NOPE and the Interveners thank all those who have supported this process so far, including the Miami Group of the Sierra Club, through their time, their testimony and their monetary contributions. All of these will continue to be needed moving forward.
