Join Communities United For Action (CUFA) and Sierra Club Miami Group (SCMG) at the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) budget hearings to urge the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to immediately reduce base rate charges and begin charging large property owners for stormwater discharges to the MSD sewer system.
Miami Group and CUNA will hold a press conference 9:30 AM Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Hamilton County Administration Building, 138 E. Court St., Cincinnati, prior to the MSD meeting at 10 AM. There is a second meeting, 6 PM Dec. 9 at the Board of Elections, 4700 Smith Road in Norwood, where you are also invited to attend.
Bring your sewer bills and prepare a short statement (2 minutes max) for why you think the County Commissioners should deliver relief for residential ratepayers and make large property owners pay their fair share NOW!
CUFA and SCMG say these changes will help equitably fund infrastructure that protects property value by reducing basement flooding and will make Cincinnati’s rivers and streams cleaner by curtailing sewage overflows.
CUFA and SCMG have made these recommendations since the BOCC convened their Rate Affordability Task Force in 2016, and more recently a Stakeholder Advisory Group from 2020-2024. But, large property owners have opposed changing the rate structure to avoid paying their fair share. The BOCC has failed to act on the recommendations, but there are indications that now could be the time.
