Sierra Club members and guest enjoyed great weather, games, music and food at the annual Miami Group picnic at the Isaac Walton League facility in Loveland on Sunday, Aug. 9. A potluck supper was enjoyed, as music was provided by the talented Brian Williams, a longtime Sierra Club member.
The evening’s festivities included the “Flooding Field Marshall” award to Larry Falkin, who has worked tirelessly on the twin issues of overland flooding in Hamilton County and the related problem of combined sewer overflows. He led the charge to get Cincinnati City Council to pass a resolution, directing the Metropolitan Sewer District to assess fees to the top 500 impervious surface landholders.
The award continues a fun Miami Group tradition of silly hats presented to members demonstrating their support for the environment.
Many thanks to Kathy Kugler for taking the lead on organizing and supporting this fun event, and to the many others who jumped in to help out!
