Our Education Forum on December 4 featured a discussion on landfills with Bob Gedert, past president of the National Recycling Coalition.
Bob’s talk centered on what is happening at our local landfills. Citizens need to know how poor landfill design contributes to environmental hazards. How can we adapt our waste collection practices to mitigate against climate change? What are our rights as citizens to protect our community?
Understanding the best practices of landfill management, as well as landfill defects, can offer a measuring stick as to whether citizens perceive the local landfill as operating in a safe manner.
Bob’s career spans more than 45 years of experience in recycling collection and solid waste facility operations. He is also the local program manager for Beyond 34, a program supported by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
