James “Jim” Durrell passed Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at age 77 years while hiking in the Smoky Mountains surrounded by his wife, Elizabeth, and good friends. He was an active member of the Miami Group Sierra Club for over 25 years. Many will remember him from the incredibly beautiful photographs he would take while walking in the woods with Sierra Club companions. Jim was a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and Harvard University, and held an advanced degree from Ohio University. He taught at Rochester Institute of Technology of New York. Jim was a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and loved the outdoors, especially Northern Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes and Crystal Lake.
