Joe Bowman

Joe Bowman

Joe Bowman, born on August 7, 1944, was a long-time Sierra Club activist who we lost on July 14, 2018 at the age of 73.  Joe had worked for several decades at the local National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (part of CDC) where he was a world authority of the effects of electromagnetic radiation exposures. But his main passion was advancing a progressive agenda in health, environment, and politics. In our Sierra Club Miami Group, he was an early promoter of the Blue-Green alliance reaching out to labor organizations to bring them into the environmental movement. Joe was a member of our Executive Committee for several years informing and advocating on energy and other sustainability goals, both on the technical level and for legislative strategy. He helped lay the groundwork for our current renewable energy and conservation activities.
