What began as the Miami Group’s Virtual Backpacking School will continue into 2021 under the new name, Virtual Outings. These bi-weekly webinars will introduce new topics covering a range of outdoor interests. We’ll also repeat some of the best webinars of 2020. In January, participants learned the basics of bike touring and learned about beautiful sections of the Appalachian Trail that are within reach of us here in the Tri-State area. Our February Virtual Outings schedule will be: Thursday, February 4, 2021 – Trip and route planning with online tools Learn about online mapping and route planning tools such as Hiking Project, Gaia, AllTrails, and Caltopo, which you can use as a supplement to (or a substitute for) guidebooks and paper maps.
Thursday, February 18, 2021 – Wilderness Jeopardy! What would you do? If you spend enough time in the backcountry it is not a question of “if” you will someday experience a backcountry emergency… it is “when”. The second half of this presentation will be a game of “Wilderness Jeopardy!” All webinar participants can play and have the chance to win some sweet Miami Group swag!
