Richard L. “Dick” Hellmann, of West Chester, Ohio was born in Ashland, Kentucky

He worked for General Electric for thirty-five years initially as an engineer and then in sales.  His work took the family to many exciting locations including Venezuela and France. He and his wife, Kathy, continued to travel extensively after retirement. These were often active holidays including challenges such as walking the Santiago de Compostela through France and Spain, cycling through small towns in the Netherlands, hiking mountains in Alaska or snorkelling in the Galapagos.

Dick belonged to a writer’s group and had a true talent for composing short stories and poems. He also cherished continued learning, mainly through OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at University of Cincinnati, where he was not only a participant, but also helped to organize speakers and courses.

Getting people outdoors to enjoy nature was important to Dick.  An environmentalist, and active member of the Sierra Club, he spent many hours hiking trails and put many miles on his bike.  Dick will be forever missed and loved by all who knew him.
