Robert Ruchhoft, long-serving member of the Sierra Club, passed away November 24, 2022 at the age of 98.
An avid hiker, biker, sailor and writer, Bob authored many books including Kentucky’s Land of the Arches, a bestselling guide to the Red River Gorge. Bob taught canoe school for the Sierra Club over many years and, as an accomplished photographer, shared slides of his many adventures at the Miami Group Innings.
As Associate Professor of History at UC, he shared his love of music, history, and photography, inspiring many. He also played clarinet and tenor saxophone in several jazz bands. He enjoyed entertaining us as a radio talk-show host and regaled many Sierra Club members over the years with parties at his home.
