Girl Scouts of Western Ohio recently held a Backpacking Basics training at Camp Whip Poor Will in Monroe. They invited one of Miami Group’s Outings Leaders to deliver the training, which included Leave No Trace Principles, proper clothing, tents, packs and of course backpacking food. The girls enjoyed trying on a full pack, making their own meal “cozy” and cooking a sampling of backpacking meals. The five-hour training finished with a short hike around the camp. “I liked the cooking and the hiking … also enjoyed trying on a backpack!” one seventh grader wrote.
The Outings Committee has been privileged to work with Girl Scouts of Western Ohio on several occasions in the past, presenting at troop meetings, conducting training and leading trips.
