The harm of plastics: class on Feb. 26

book cover, "Untangling Plastics"

Sierra Club Miami Group member Bob Gedert is teaching a class for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at University of Cincinnati on the harms of plastics. The presentation is entitled: “Untangling Plastics: The Missing Link in Mitigating Climate Change.”

Bob Gedert will present his findings and citizen actions in his newly published book, Untangling Plastics. All forms of synthetic plastics are made from fossil fuels, and every step of the fossil fuel trail impacts the climate and degrades the Earth’s environment, from the extraction of minerals and gas to transport to processing and refining to the manufacturing of plastics. Then there are environmental and climate impacts from the packaging and sale of plastic products, consumer use and disposal habits, and the ongoing impact of plastics on the environment.

This OLLI class is available by Zoom or in person. Bob’s presentation will be on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 12:45 PM. The class number is 2575 (Victory Pkwy Campus) or 2576 (Zoom). The class is free. However, there is an OLLI Winter Term Membership of $90, which allows you to register for as many classes as you desire.

OLLI programs are designed for adults aged 50 and better. The only prerequisite is a desire to learn. Online registration is available at https://reg121.imperisoft.com/uc-olli/Search/Registration.aspx.
